A report published by the Dutch Incident Management Foundation (SIMN) shows that in 2021 the Coentunnel in Amsterdam was the most dangerous road in the country.
In 2021, 63 accidents occurred in Amsterdam’s Coentunnel
Last year, SIMN reported that there were 63 accidents at the northern entrance to Coentunnel, making it the most dangerous road in the Netherlands for the third year in a row.
All accidents that occurred in 2021 occurred during the day, with three-quarters of the 63 incidents occur between 1pm and 5pm – hours when the sun shines in the eyes of drivers approaching the northern entrance to the tunnel. SIMN attributes this to the fact that “the abrupt transition from daylight to tunnel darkness”.
