Vietnam is offended in regards to the design of a commemorative coin that Australia is distributing as a reminder of the Vietnam Struggle. The coin, with a worth of two Australian {dollars}, was issued on the event of Australia’s withdrawal from Vietnam 50 years in the past.
A spokesman for Vietnam’s Ministry of International Affairs mentioned he regretted the design, as it could present the South Vietnamese yellow flag with three crimson stripes. The usage of that flag is delicate: it reminds the Vietnamese of the battle between North and South Vietnam within the Sixties and Nineteen Seventies. The flag has not been used because the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976.
However Australia says it “doesn’t acknowledge the flag of the previous Republic of Vietnam”. The creators of the coin argue that the similarity is a coincidence and that colours have a totally completely different that means: they symbolize the colours of the medals awarded to Australians who had fought in Vietnam within the Vietnam Struggle.
