Export to Taiwan for door chip machines ASML

ASML is the latest company to export Dutch chips to Taiwan. Volgens het Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) is de totale waarde van de goederenuitvoort naar de eilandstaat sind 2010 maar lieftsverviervoudigd en dat komt voor een groot deel door de chipmachines.

Almost a quarter of the total export value of the specialized machines, the category where the products of the Veldhovense ASML also belong, went to Taiwan in 2021. With that, the country was the largest consumer of this type of goods. In 2010, more than 12 percent of all specialty machines in Taiwan were produced. Het CBS noemt verder geen namen van companies.

Taiwan is known as a major player in the chip industry. Taiwan’s TSMC, which makes more Apple chips, is the world’s largest chip maker. The company has also been an important customer of ASML for years. Mede hierdoor is a Taiwanese tweed export for the Netherlands in East Asia.

Grote buur China is nog altijd nummer 1. Vorig jaar bedroeg de Nederlandse export aar China ruim 14 billion euros. Taiwan was targeted at €10 billion in South Korea, number 3 in the region, with €9 billion. De export naar Oost-Azië als geheel is sind 2010 zo’n 2.5 keer toogenomen in waarde, heeft het CBS becijferd.

Niet allene de export naar Taiwan zat flink in de lift. De goederenimport uit Taiwan – denk aan computeronderdelen en e-bikes – verdubbelde in deselfde periode ruimschoots. Last year it went to 6 billion euros aan goederen. This makes Taiwan tegenwoordig de derde the most important goederenleverancier in East Asia, China and Japan.
